A theory for BF Resynced relating to modern day and Valhalla

I totally believe that time travel could somehow be introduced to the series very soon. Before you think I talk nonsense, let me explain and it’s going to make a lot of sense. So before I start with my theory: This is obviously going to contain spoilers for Valhalla‘s ending, so if you didn’t play it yet, please don’t read further along:

As we all know, at the ending of Valhalla, >!Desmond (aka the Reader) and Layla are trapped within this network like entity (Yggdrasil) to analyze and read infinite timelines in order to find a solution for the recurring catastrophes that are bound to wipe out humanity. Layla suggested that they should look into timelines where Desmond did NOT save the world in 2012 which opens up billions of new timelines.!<

But what use would it have to analyze those timelines if they don’t go back in time? There is no way to undo what happened with Desmond in 2012 other than going back in time. For me, this is clearly a hint to time travel in some sort because it wouldn’t make any other sense.

Now here is the thing with Resynced: We are going to be told the same story again but how could you even embed it into the modern day storyline to get told the same story again which we already saw? They already confirmed that both Black Flags, i.e. the original and Resynced, are going to be canon. It could very well be that >!Desmond and Layla!< are in some sort reviewing Edward‘s life to find something useful for their cause. And maybe in another timeline, the ending of Black Flag is totally different from what we got. What makes my theory even more plausible is that the official AC social media team just hinted at a remake of the Ezio Trilogy: the very trilogy that is about Desmond‘s modern day story.

Now wouldn‘t it be possible that they go back in time to 2012 and Desmond doesn’t sacrifice himself and save the world? That is exactly what >!Layla!< suggested. This could be a reason why the remakes are even happening (apart from money of course but I mean lorewise).

I haven‘t played Shadows yet but from what I have heard, there is basically no modern day story. This is actually a crazy theory and could drastically change the series but as you can see, it would make sense if they went this route. This is actually all so damn interesting and I am really eager to know what they will make out of it and I REALLY hope that they make something out of it because there is so much potential.

I really hope Ubisoft doesn’t drop the modern day storyline they developed in Valhalla because it was by far the most interesting one since Desmond. We have to remember that Basim is still out there and damn even Baldr could play a role in all of this because he is still trapped in this void like realm that was set up in the Forgotten Saga. I am keen to see what they will do with Basim and I pray that they don’t drop it.

By no means do I mean that I want time travel to be introduced to the series but I just thought it would make a lot of sense with the hints we got. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
