The Frontières Gothiques (Gothic Frontiers)

The Frontières Gothiques are a shadowed demi-plane, shaped like a sphere's cap and hemmed in by a thick mist from which monsters regularly emerge. At the Apex of this cap lies a permanent, eternal storm that erratically hurls forth objects and living beings, victims of occult accidents occurring elsewhere within the Labyrinth.

Between the Apex and the mist, save for a small misty anomaly to the Southeast of the Apex, lie habitable lands where nations once rose. The Belt of Mist is slowly receding, revealing new lands that the boldest and most desperate attempt to tame, often at the peril of their lives, and sometimes at the peril of their souls.

The Frontières Gothiques are in dire straits. The forces of the Eleven Hells have invaded the demi-plane, and this world came heartbeat away from being sacrificed upon the Altar of Innocence. At the cost of immense sacrifice and unexpected alliances, the Fringes have been saved, for now. A precarious truce has taken hold.

We are in the spring of 1716. To everyone's surprise, the truce survived the winter. However, one must face the facts: the Infernal Regency is here to stay. Its grip on the lands of the Hesperian Empire tightens by the day. Only the Despotate of Xeropis, saved by the Orcs, and the Isle of Timas, protected by the Noxylvanian navy, have escaped conquest. Faced with the deepening roots of the Regency, the remaining realms have retreated into a leaden silence. From their respective capitals, they watch one another with bated breath. Who will dare take the first step toward the Infernals minions? Will it be the Vampire King of Noxylvania? Or the Drow wizard of Ulitraë? Some less expected leaders?
