I made a Raspberry Pi app that can receive files from Android Quick Share

I have been working on RQuickShare Pi, a Raspberry Pi OS ARM64 desktop app that lets a Pi send and receive files with Android Quick Share.

The reason I built it is that I wanted my Raspberry Pi desktop to show up as a nearby target from my Android phone without using cables, cloud sync, Telegram, email, or a web upload page.

Current status:

- Works on my Raspberry Pi 5 with Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit

- Sends files from Pi to Android

- Receives files from Android to Pi

- Uses Bluetooth discovery and local network transfer

- Has a normal desktop app and tray icon

- Still alpha and looking for testers

One note for Samsung users: if the Pi does not appear, turning off `Share with Apple devices` in Samsung Quick Share settings may be required. That mode caused discovery issues in my testing.

P.S: If you can't support with Ko-fi but still feel like you want to support this project (and me in general) just star the repository on GitHub! (both of these are completely fine).

I made a Raspberry Pi app for Android Quick Share

I just launched the first alpha of RQuickShare Pi.

It is a Raspberry Pi OS ARM64 desktop app that lets a Raspberry Pi send and receive files with Android Quick Share devices.

Why I made it:

I use my Pi as a real desktop sometimes, and moving files between my phone and the Pi was more annoying than it should be. I wanted the Pi to feel like a normal nearby device from Android Quick Share.

What is working:

- Raspberry Pi 5 testing

- Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit ARM64

- Android-to-Pi file receive

- Pi-to-Android file send

- Tray icon

- Start-on-boot

- Hidden tray startup

- ARM64 `.deb` installer

It is open source and still alpha. I am looking for feedback on the website, install flow, and whether the project is understandable to normal Raspberry Pi users.

RQuickShare Pi - FOSS Android Quick Share support for Raspberry Pi OS ARM64

I released an alpha of RQuickShare Pi, a GPL-3.0 Raspberry Pi focused fork of RQuickShare.

The goal is to make Android Quick Share usable on Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit ARM64 as a normal desktop app, not just as a source build experiment.

What is included:

- Free and open-source under GPL-3.0

- Original RQuickShare credits and notices preserved

- ARM64 Debian package

- Raspberry Pi OS target

- Tested on Raspberry Pi 5

- System tray app

- Send and receive files with Android Quick Share

- Bluetooth discovery and mDNS transfer path

- Pi-specific fixes for WebKitGTK and receive discovery

Still alpha, so bug reports and Pi testing are welcome.

RQuickShare Pi - a Linux desktop app for Android Quick Share on Raspberry Pi OS ARM64

I released the first alpha of RQuickShare Pi, a Linux desktop app for using Android Quick Share on Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit ARM64.

It is based on RQuickShare, but this fork is focused specifically on Raspberry Pi OS as the target desktop platform.

Highlights:

- ARM64 Debian package

- Raspberry Pi OS focused

- Tested on Raspberry Pi 5

- Tauri desktop app

- System tray support

- Start-on-boot and start-hidden behavior

- Bluetooth and mDNS based discovery/transfer path

- Pi-specific WebKitGTK first-frame rendering workaround

- Samsung Quick Share discovery workaround from real testing

This is alpha software, so I am looking for testers and bug reports more than anything else.

RQuickShare Pi - my Raspberry Pi 5 can now use Android Quick Share

I wanted my Raspberry Pi to behave more like a normal desktop computer when moving files around, so I started working on RQuickShare Pi.

It is a Raspberry Pi OS ARM64 focused fork of RQuickShare that lets the Pi send and receive files with Android Quick Share devices.

Current status:

- Tested on Raspberry Pi 5

- Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit ARM64

- Desktop app with system tray support

- Android Quick Share send and receive

- Bluetooth discovery

- mDNS/network transfer

- Start-on-boot option

- Starts hidden in tray if configured

The part that took the most Pi-specific work was not just compiling it. I had to deal with Raspberry Pi OS desktop behavior, WebKitGTK rendering issues, BlueZ/Bluetooth discovery, mDNS, and Samsung Quick Share behavior where the phone was not seeing the Pi until the discovery path was adjusted.

It is alpha, but it works on my Pi now. I would love to hear from other Pi users who test it.

I launched RQuickShare Pi - Quick Share for Raspberry Pi OS ARM64 (receives from Android devices)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a project I have been working on: RQuickShare Pi.

It is a Raspberry Pi focused fork of RQuickShare, made for Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit on ARM64. The goal is to make Android Quick Share work naturally on the Pi, with a real desktop app experience instead of a generic Linux build that may or may not work properly on Pi hardware.

This is currently v0.0.1 alpha, but it is already public and usable for testing.

What it does:

Lets a Raspberry Pi send files to Android Quick Share devices

Lets Android phones send files to the Raspberry Pi

Runs as a desktop app on Raspberry Pi OS

Supports tray behavior

Can start hidden in the tray on boot

Includes Pi focused install and uninstall scripts

Includes a wiki with setup, boot behavior, troubleshooting, and Samsung notes

Is built and tested on real Raspberry Pi hardware

Important note for Samsung users:

On Samsung phones, "Share with Apple devices" can prevent the Pi from appearing during Quick Share discovery. The wiki documents the setting to turn off if your phone does not see the Pi.

Ko-fi support (completely optional):

RQuickShare Pi is based on the open source RQuickShare project and keeps the GPL-3.0 license and credits. This fork is independent and focused specifically on Raspberry Pi OS ARM64.

I would love feedback from other Raspberry Pi users, especially anyone testing with different Android phones or different Pi setups.

This project was made with much ❤️ for the community.
