Anyone remember when the Astrodome had more games rained out than Riverfront stadium?

I worked or the Reds for a few years, and they were proud that the Astrodome had more rainouts (one in 1976) than at Riverfront stadium.

There is a big asterisk for this. A 2nd game of a double header was scrapped because of rain in 1971, but no “rain checks” were issued because a complete game was played.

The first single game rainout (and first rain checks issued) was August 30, 1978.

Back then games started at 8:05, and when it rained it was common for games to go after midnight, and sometimes after 1AM.

Reds are only 7 games back.

Only one game in last place.

Wait, they are a game above .500. That’s it!! At the beginning of the season if someone said they’d be a game above.500 this time in May, most of us would have been OK with that!
Look on the bright side…
