VoiceTools is horrendous and Very Inaccurate. PLEASE stop using it

https://reddit.com/link/1wd1lmw/video/61cjlvjefsoh1/player

All voice tools does is measure pitch and then based off that, presents a gender verdict as a matter of fact. ITS VERY INACCURATE.

For starters voice tools assumes that all woman just speak at a pitch of 210Hz+, thats not true at all. Cis women speak anywhere from 160 to 220Hz, it does not measure anything besides pitch, which you can legitimately argue might be the least important thing.

I see so many people in this subreddit who have very lovely and completely passable voices and there voicetool gender verdict will still show 30-40% male. And on the opposite end I'll also see people just getting into voice training and because they can talk at a higher pitch. which is very easy to do, voicetool will tell them 99% female.

I dont know how voicetools became the default tool of the trans community, but its genuinely horrendous, and I see people constantly recommending it. There are so many better tools/apps you dont even have to use Juni there so many others aswell. But PLEASE stop using voice tools.

Ear Training, The part nobody practices but is crucial

Ear training matters so much. your ear has to get ahead of your voice. once you can hear a small change you can aim for it.

So far there hasn't been a great tool to train ears , thats why we built it in Juni.

it plays two versions of the same voice, one brighter one darker, and you pick which is which. you can train on 12 real people or record a few seconds and train on your own voice.

it starts with a big difference. get 3 right in a row and the difference gets smaller. get 2 wrong and it backs off a bit. so it always sits right at the edge of what you can hear, which is where your ear actually improves.

A voice tool that measures resonance, not just pitch

Most apps show you a pitch number and stop there. Resonance is the thing that actually changes how you get read, and almost nothing measures it properly.

Juni does. What it does:

Live meter. Watch your resonance move in real time while you talk. Pitch too.

Voice report. Read a passage and get the full picture: resonance in plain words plus the F2 number, your pitch median and range, and a trace of what your voice did across the whole take.

Weekly check. Same passage every week, weeks laid side by side. Your ear adapts to your own voice within days, so this is the only honest way to see change.

A coach that reads your week and writes the next one from what it actually heard.

Hear your target. Your own recording, shifted toward your goal, so you can hear where you're going.

On accuracy: I tested it against voices where I knew the exact measurments, plus 35+ real recordings.

Then I ran the same tests through Praat, the software speech researchers publish with. At the pitches trans women actually train at, Juni came out more accurate. One test voice with resonance at 1900 came back from Praat as 1550. Juni was within a few percent of every answer.

That comparison is on default settings and high voices specifically. Praat is a great tool and experts tune it per speaker. But out of the box, on high voices, it drifts, because it's built for speech in general and we are not the general case.

No "how feminine do you sound" score. That number isn't in the signal, and anything claiming to have it is guessing.

Free, no account, no trial: 8 of the 11 tools including live pitch and resonance, the full voice report, and all 22 videos and 17 written lessons.

There is a paid tier aswell that unlocks the daily training excersices

Nothing leaves your phone. No account, no tracking.

Would love feedback: Anything you think could improve or be changed. (my DMs are open if you have any questions or have any feedback, or you could just post in the comment section anything you dont like about the app it would be greatly appreciated)

Only on the app store for now, but we are working to release it for andriod
