Second project and so many lessons learned the hard way!

I’m nearly finished with my second project, and I am hooked! But I definitely learned a lot of things the hard way. I started with a pattern from my glass studio’s reference book, but I made a lot of modifications as I went along. I wanted to better conceptualize the mountains, sunset and Puget Sound, where I live. But not having a complete pattern was a nightmare! I went through tons of glass and tons of modifications. I got stuck several times trying to figure out how to fit things under the ribbon curves from the original pattern that I was trying so hard to preserve.

Also, I had started cutting pieces too big, afraid that otherwise I would cut things too small. This resulted in a lot of grinding. Another thing I did was built the project “face up,” instead of “face down.” So as my soldering improved, the back side of the project is now better looking than the front. I could turn it around, but then my bevel piece would be backwards, lol.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and a lot of time and money. I am definitely having a blast and my next project will start with a complete pattern at the beginning, as well as the other things I’ve learned!

I threw in a lot of photos here of my ongoing process, as well as one of the pattern (my own) that I am working on for my next piece. 🩷 I would love any of your tips or feedback, as this is so much fun to learn!

My first stained glass project

I had a lot of fun in my stained glass using copper foil. I’m about to start soldering my second project, which uses lead came, so I am studying this one to see how to improve my technique. I was definitely flying blind on the bee, pun intended!
