11 weeks post op sciatica returned

30f stay at home mom with a giant 2 year old

I have always had back pain but after having my son it got so much worse. It didn’t help that he has always been in the 99th percentile for weight and I held him ALL day every day.

Anyway, I had a really large herniation (photo attached) that I had emergency surgery on. The sciatic pain immediately went away after surgery. I didn’t take pain killers because I was still nursing & cosleeping so the first few days were rough. But since then I’ve felt amazing. I had a lot of help with my toddler, but obviously not 24/7 care. I did forget a couple times and picked up my toddler around 5/6 weeks post op. I still felt great after those instances.

A couple weeks ago I started doing light yardwork (still no picking up anything heavy) and ever since then my sciatic pain has slowly come back. I never felt anything pop. It started in my glute and I thought “oh it’s just sore from yardwork”.

The last 5 days it’s come back full force all the way down to my calf. I can’t walk without the shooting pain. I can’t stand still, and I can barely sleep.

My surgeon prescribed me a steroid pack to see if it’s just inflammation but I am so scared it’s reherniation.

Has this happened to anyone and it ended up just being inflammation?
