Using smart ring to skip wake word
I wanted to skip the wake word when invoking assist pipeline.
For a while i use multiple buttons one like in the image or others with more buttons (ikea media remote, one button assigned to cancel a request) works ok but i found it not great since the buttons where not always within arm reach.
So initially i wanted to get a smart watch for gestures but is expensive for me right now. (wanted xiaomi smart watch 5, seeing some reviews it is disappointing)
I ended up with smart ring from aliexpress (wait for price reduction from time to time ~ 28 euro is what i paid):
The idea the ring has a touch area where the led is and using iOS shortcuts i invoke the assist pipeline when i am at home, when away based on the fact i am no longer connected to the wifi it will invoke chatgpt on the phone.
Works rather well hence i a made this post so someone might find it usefull.
To make it work, change the ring gestures to book page changes in it's app. Then in iOS Accessibility go to Touch > Assistive Touch > Devices > Ring > And do the gesture to link your shortcut.
For those wondering what the clock behind is LaMetric time clock, which shows recording icon when assist pipline is listening or brain icon when it is processing. I find nice to have a visual confirmation of what is happening on some kind of info panel.
Should work with VoicePE or other esp32s3 devices, mine is a respeaker.
