Hmmm, so you think Robert and Jimmy may suprise us for a Visit on PBS 4th of July Special?

Robert was out for lunch with Gerry Beckley last week, so he is getting out and doing things and he looked great in the picture. Do you suppose, just suppose, that maybe he and Jimmy would show up for the July 4th PBS Special to do a special appearance? These things are short usually 3-4 songs. I think they can handle that. It's not like they are committing to a 200 date tour. I mean it's America's 250th, Walter just passed, and if it means anything for the band's legacy, they should make an effort to show for just the one day!

Even Bruce Johnston, of the Beach Boys that has toured since 1965, retired from the road earlier this year, is joining Mike for the 4th of July and other special events. So hey, you never know?

My parents have been married 40 years and I had no idea what to get them. They don't need anything, they don't want anything — every year I default to a nice dinner reservation and call it done.

This year my sister suggested we try something called a custom song. You basically fill out a form about the couple — how they met, inside jokes, meaningful moments — and professional musicians write and record an original song just for them.

We used a site called SongGifted.com. Sent over a bunch of details about how my dad used to drive two hours every weekend just to see my mom before they were together, that kind of stuff. A week or so later we got back this fully produced song. Acoustic guitar, real vocals, lyrics that actually referenced their story.

We played it at the family dinner. My mom cried within about 10 seconds. My dad — who does not cry — had to excuse himself to "check on something in the kitchen." He did not check on anything in the kitchen.

Genuinely the best gift I've ever given. Posting here in case anyone else is stuck on what to get someone who has everything.
