Leptosoma as dithers for Hongi mbuna

My lfs has recommended trying a group of Leptosoma utinta as dithers for my colony of Hongis. It's a 4ft, 55 gallon tank - the colony has been in there about 7 months - 9 adults and about 10-15 juveniles of varying sizes from newly spat to about half the adult size, produced over that time in the tank. It's all going well - but due to the heavy rockscaping and the fact that the tank is in a fish room, they do tend to hide when i come in - and I'd like to see them more.

With most of my Tang cichlids I've used WCMM or even Caudopunctatus as dithers for the more shy shelldwellers or others, but I know that wont work for mbuna. However, given that Leptosoma are so expensive here (Perth, Australia) - like $50 each, I'd like to hear if anyone else is doing this with success - cuz I'd rather not have to fork out on $500 worth of fish and watch them get annihilated.
