First book was pretty boring for me, but the end gave me a little hope that it might get better. Did anyone read book 1 and 2 and like book 2?

Specifically, I found the whole story pretty cliche. The magic system is pretty basic. Tom doesn’t suffer any real setbacks the entire time. Every time he is about to face some difficulty it’s ‘revealed’ that he actually has more powers.

The narration was also pretty mid and didn’t create any excitement or suspense for the story.
