So I will be getting my first ES next February. Got deposit down. Leaning towards a female. I am 61 and this will likely be my last bird dog. Son has 5 Springer's and we hunt pheasants in SD and WI.

I have trained dogs before and will be training this one. Not looking for the perfect dog just enjoy watching them work. Really after one to bond with me. We currently have 2 older Norwegian Elkhounds which will be just fine.

Seen lots about how wonderful males are but not a lot about the females. Any dog I get will be fixed as no desire to breed.

So any big reasons to go male or female? Will either be mostly the same?

Oh and I do know a lot depends on each dog . Just trying to get some real life opinions about others feelings on this.
