Turned a (counterfeit) 1 ounce silver liberty into a belt buckle
A few months ago I bought what was supposed to be a fine silver proof on eBay - which, upon arrival, was very clearly fake. Got refunded after reporting, but what does one do with a worthless counterfeit?
It sat awkwardly on my side table until I got the idea to see if it could be made into a belt buckle a few days ago. It worked and I love it! Copper (not silver, liars) and brazed silicon bronze for the belt bits. 5oz black leather latigo and copper rivets.
Pic 5 and 6 show a real, fine silver 1 ounce coin for comparison on the left, fake (the one that became this buckle) on the right. The plating came off almost instantly with light abrasion. It’s also a fair bit thicker than the real silver round which actually worked in my favor since it’s a bit sturdier for belt-like purposes.
And now it’s useful! Take that, ya counterfeiting asshats 🤪 and keep an eye out you all, lots of scammers out there as the price of silver rises.
