Hi all, from a New England-based agent of chaos 👋
I’m hoping to tap into the collective knowledge here. I was recently given a family spinning wheel, but unfortunately it came with very little information. The only details I have are that it may trace back to my Hungarian/Slovakian/Scottish roots and is believed to be around 300 years old, though I have no idea how to verify that.
There are no visible maker’s marks, and it appears to be constructed entirely from wood, metal, and leather. I’ve gotten it mostly assembled, but there are still a few parts I haven’t attached yet, either because they need restoration or because I’m not entirely sure what they are or where they belong.
If anyone has suggestions on how to research its origins, identify its style, or resources for better understanding antique spinning wheels, I would be incredibly grateful. Even tips on where to start would help a lot.
Thanks so much in advance for any guidance 🖤
