Can anyone provide any tips for an electrical engineering etam essay/personal experiences with the essay in general?

Additionally, I didn't do too hot in Calc 1, partly because of extenuating circumstances but also because the way my prof graded tests was the downfall of my grade. I had taken calc AB in high school and got a 4 on the ap test and wanted to retake it for a gpa boost but that obviously wasn't the case. Would it be beneficial for me to mention my ap test to explain my grade isn't the most accurate reflection of my understanding? Or is that not going to change anything. Any help is appreciated and sorry for a long post.
