Hi everyone. I’m (F23) getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy in about 5 days time. For context, I am an assault victim and have previously had a traumatic experience with being held down and degraded by an anaesthesiologist when I was 16.

I am incredibly nervous and upset by the thought of being put to sleep and giving a stranger access to very sensitive and private parts of my body, but I know it must be done in order to find out what is happening with my gastrointestinal issues.

Does anyone have any advice or comfort they can provide in relation to these types of procedures? Has anyone had similar anxieties like this and how did they get over them?

I want to finally live without stomach pain and horrible gastrointestinal issues but I’m scared of the steps I need to take to heal my gut.

Any help or guidance appreciated :)
