Little background: I graduated in 2024 with my BS in Mathematics. I’ve been working in underwriting for total of 2y in June. I have my ARM and 1y left of my MS in AI. I had no work experience before my current UW role.
I currently work in Environmental Casualty as an Underwriter living in South central region however my Territory is CA and I’m making 84k. I handle GL/PL, XS & Auto. My book size is 4M. I have a good support structure with coworkers up to manager and PLM all in my office. Only two days in office with a 20min drive. Also have made lots of connections from my internship days and now in my current position as well. Don’t hate my company or my job or my team. I get half days on Friday’s. Just feel like I’m underpaid compared to my other friends some of which aren’t in insurance.
This new job offering is in the same location so the drive will be the same. The line of business however is in Construction so probably a learning curve. I’ll be expected to handle a 5M book. They are promising to make me a Senior UW and salary will be 105k. They did mention no one from my team would sit in my office as they’re all east coast. So I’ll essentially be alone in the office. It’s also a new territory as I currently handle west and now I’ll be handling TX, OK & LA. 3 days in office with 20min drive.
Not sure about healthcare or 401k or other questions. Do those even matter or is it basically the same for all companies?
