Need Actual Independent Agency Advice
Hello!
I am currently a P & C agent based in IL and have been in insurance for 10 years working captive and for a broker as staff. I have had the itch to move forward with my own independent agency as I love the broker world. I do have multiple sources for referrals and can generate a good amount of premium, though I always think VERY conservatively of my potential for months.
My question is mostly when it comes to venturing out on your own. There seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors when trying to gain information to proceed. I currently work with a brokerage and have experience with multiple carriers. I have searched online for a “guide” or blueprint on how to actually start independent agencies. I don’t know how I would get appointed, how aggregates/clusters or any of that works.
My end goal would be to have the ability to write my own business while also owning my book. Not against a commission split so long as ownership stays with me.
I have a business plan in place and feel ready for this venture. Any information would be so greatly appreciated.
