Where do I put excess Dorm furniture

Hello, sorry if this is a stupid question. I want to bring my own desk to the dorm. It’s a standing desk because I get still joints and will fit fine as I have a single. The issue is, am I allowed to take out the smaller desk already in the room, store it somewhere, and put it back when I move out? Or do the RAs do dorm checks and need everything to remain where it is?

URS application

URS application

Hello!

I recently applied for URS on the 16th of this month. As far as I know they said I could expect to hear back within two weeks, which is the 30th. I’m aware that time is not up yet, however I just wanted to ask if anyone else received a reply within the rolling deadline after the initial replies on the 19th.

I run on anxiety and am irrationally worried they didn’t get my application for some reason.

If I don’t end up getting a reply within the standard timeline, do I email the coordinators just in case?

Thanks!

UW Health jobs

This is a general question but I am an incoming freshman and I see other freshman getting jobs at UW health. I’m wondering if there was a process for this or if it’s mostly in state individuals that have had experience with the services and it just makes it easier for them to get the job because they are more informed? I’m coming from out of state and just feel very behind. I did apply for volunteering and such but I’m not exactly sure how to apply for a paid service. Would I need certificates in EMT/RNA/etc? Or is it something else I’m missing.

First sem course selection help

Hello! I’m currently an incoming student at UW. My SOAR date is coming up and I’m looking at classes to take before I meet with my advisor. Does anyone have any recommendations for Gen Ed courses such as bio, stats, calc, etc? I’m majoring in neuroscience so I’d like to keep my GPA high for post grad, so avoiding harsher professors or just outrageously hard classes would be great. I will be putting in the work and studying, but I’m also worried it would be hard to adjust. Any general advice would be appreciated. Also do you recommend joining any FIGS? I have some lined up but I just wanted to hear from others.

Question About Lowell

Hello,

So I got placed into Lowell as a freshman coming to UW Madison. Honestly, I'm worried because I've heard a few bad things, especially about the social life. I was just going to ask if it was really as bad as it is made out to be. I honestly like my dorm so I'm not entirely upset. I understand it's very similar to a hotel environment or used to be a hotel so if the social life sucks I would appreciate any other suggestions to meeting others. I am coming from out of state so obviously I'm not going to have people I know unfortunately. I was also told it was near the Northern lake and the party frats. I'm not too worried about that but does that make it easier to socialize or does it have no affect?

Any help from people who have lived there or know anything about it would be great. Thank you!

Language requirement question

Hello! I was just curious as to whether I have fulfilled the language requirement for UW Madison. For reference I am a neuroscience major on a BS degree track for the class of 2030. I have taken French for 3 years in highschool and dropped it senior year. I am aware the website states 1 year of highschool language is equal to 1 unit of language credits. I just wanted to inquire if those 3 years of highschool French had to be AP or some kind of duel credit? I took honors for all 3 years but never received any college credit for it. Does this still fulfill the requirement?

Thanks! Any help would be appreciated. Also I apologize for grammar mistakes English is not my first language

Placement tests question

Hello! Im an incoming freshman at UW

I recently took the English placement test for UW Madison and got a 600, which was 5 points shy of meeting the requirement to get me out of the Comm A class. I didn’t try very hard, so it was mostly on me. However, I received a 5 on ap lang last year and most likely will get a 5 ap lit this year. My question is, does the L and S college accept the ap lang credits over the placement results? Will I still have to take comm a ? For reference, my academic records under the placement test score say I must take Comm a, but my ap lang credits have an “a” next to them saying they satisfy the requirement. So am I exempt or not?

Does this also apply to math? I’m taking the test for that next week but I have a 4 in calc AB.
