Hi, thanks for reading!

I want to turn the display of an Asus laptop (ROG g513qy) that died because of a CPU failure into a monitor. I have researched about the display's requirements and it seems like I need a DP to eDP adapter board that uses a 40-pin eDP connector, I already confirmed that my display has that one by removing the display from the laptop.

My main concern is regarding the controller board I can get in Argentina. The only listing that I found doesn't provide a deep technical datasheet, so I am hesitant about the compatibility. To confirm that it is compatible, I attached the images that look more informative and one with the cable that they list as compatible, which is a 40pin eDP.

Also, the display specs taken from the panelook website are:

  • Model: BOE NE156QHM-NY2
  • Resolution: 2560 x 1440
  • Interface: 40-pin, 4-lane eDP
  • Refresh Rate: 165Hz

And, the specs of the board (here is the board listed on Alibaba):

  • Model: DP-EDP H8 4K 120 (Generic Scaler Board)
  • Max Supported Resolution: 3840 x 2160 @ 120Hz
  • Output Interface: 40-pin eDP
  • Inputs: Mini-DisplayPort, USB Type-C (Power & Video)

I would like to know if this board will work with my display. Or how plausible is it, because given that it is not that expensive, I can take an informed risk. A secondary question I have is wether the board will natively pass the 165Hz EDID over Mini-DP, or will I be forced to use CRU (Custom Resolution Utility)?

Any advice is appreciated!
