Puppy’s reaction to his final vaccine!
He’s absolutely fine now but my poor little pup had his final vax the other day - approximately 1-1.5 hours later I looked at him and his face was suddenly all swollen and he was starting to paw at his face. We jumped in the car and went straight to the vet and within 20 minutes of me first noticing his reaction they had given him a shot with steroids and antihistamines and he started feeling better almost immediately. They said it was possible obviously for some dogs to react to the vaccines (he’d been fine for his first two) and that when it came time for his annual booster they could keep him in after his vax to monitor him in case it happens again. They also said some dogs just Have a once off reaction while others get given benadryl or an antihistamine beforehand and they are fine.
Anyway he is fine now but just a PSA that anaphylaxis can set in up to a few hours after a vaccine, even if they are fine immediately afterwards!
