Saw a “not woke” bumper sticker today in Morton.
“Woke” started as a word for being aware, especially around inequality. Now it’s something people go out of their way to reject.
I’m sure people will point to the most extreme examples they can find, but that kind of proves the point. A word that meant awareness has been turned into a catch-all for anything people don’t like.
So what part is actually being pushed back on, the original idea, or the exaggerated, politicized version of it?
