My partner (who I do not live with and am financially independent from) is a FIFO worker in the NT. He currently works 3 weeks on 1 week off and flys into Darwin on his week off.
He wants to buy his own home preferably his first PPoR but he doesn't want to buy in the NT. He doesn't want to get stuck there and is looking at buying in Qld where I live, not necessarily anywhere near me, but I am willing to help him locate and inspect properties and deal with the REA/Solicitor via his instructions etc. He may also one day leave his current FIFO position and work in Qld but that hasn't eventuated yet.
The issue we have come up against is him having to prove he is a QLD resident. He flies out of Darwin to see me a few times a year but has recently lost his accommodation in Darwin and currently flying out to Qld seems like it would be on par with renting in Darwin. The fact that he is only in Darwin 1 week out of three seems incredibly ridiculous to be paying weekly rent there.
How does he legally and practically do this? He doesn't want to risk waiting until he changes jobs because this could take months to find a similar position in Qld and would like to buy sooner rather than later.
Is this practical or feasible? Is there no other way to get a loan approved if you intend to live in another state.
