First time pool owner - replacement pool cover?

I know nothing about pools, other than we moved into our home about a year ago and have already paid to replace the pump, install a heater (we live in PA), put in a fence around the pool (small kids), and dig up our yard to fix a leak. Continuing with this trend, we now we need to replace our pool cover (which at least we knew we would need to do when we bought the house).

We have a figure 8 shaped pool and had a solid safety cover up until now. Just wanted to get an idea for what replacement options people would recommend. If the answer is to stick with a safety cover, is there any benefit of doing mesh vs solid? What makes automatic covers worth the investment? We live in a wooded area and, despite getting weekly cleanings, I do wake up every morning and skim the pool given all the leaves, pine needles, etc. that finds its way into the pool overnight. I don't hate doing that, it's actually kind of calming, but if an automatic cover would help I might as well look into it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
