I’m a waitress in London. As a supervisor, I was previously paid £12.70 while the non-management FOH were paid £12.21.
In Feb 2026 we introduced table service/service charge. The minimum wage increased in April 2026. Now, supervisors are paid £12.71, and everyone else below is paid £12.70.
When confronted about this seemingly 1p pay increase, my employer said that despite how it looks, the tronc weighting for supervisors is more so we will still end up earning more.
Is it legal to use tronc as wages? I’ve always been under the impression that it’s an additional (non-compulsory) fee.
***EDIT Sorry I forgot a big part of it. Technically on paper our pay is £12.21 and they are using the tronc to make up the extra 50p to make it £12.71. Then they’re saying that everyone’s base pay is £12.71 .. to be honest I think im confusing myself hahah. I’ve tried to ask my employer for more clarity but they aren’t really giving anything atm
