Mental Techniques to move on with your day (and life)
I'm a PM for big GC, on a big job, and we all run into the same type of issues caused by too many things outside of our control: our team members or Subs slipping, price escalation, bi-polar inspectors, backdoor politics between our upper management and Owner that overrides your by-the-book decisions and so on. Even if we aren't under fire, the sheer amount of fires to put out that come out of the blue, and other things that would trigger Buddha himself is overwhelming at times. I'm writting this on Friday, and I'm exhausted from this week. Not even working weekend.
What tricks or reasoning do you use to bring yourself back to the normal mental state?
I'll list two that help me the most:
Overall, I know I have good life, own a place, no debt, and if sh hits the fan, I can live for years no problem, or retire to a cheaper country. I'll never be hungry or without a roof.
I have a sticker with dove with an olive branch, symbol of peace, on my monitor and if I read a hard email or somebody walks thru my door with bad news, my gaze wanders to it and I calm myself.
But wish I could be more relaxed still. Hoping to see some different perspectives from the community, maybe we can help each other with advice.
