I (17M) was raised by a single, troubled, criminal teen dad who came from an abusive and poor family, AMA
Very brief context: (im from the UK btw)
Dad came from an abusive and poor family, became part of gangs and did crime like drugs, theft, vandalism etc. Met a girl at high school and after a year of dating she found out she was pregnant with me at 15. My dads parents kicked him out, my mothers parents let him move in for a while. My mothers parents were begging her to abort me but she didn’t want to (I’m not sure if I am an accident or not)
When I was born my dad changed and gradually stopped his criminal behaviour as he wanted to raise me with a good childhood he never had (he was still addicted to drugs and smoking, but now only smokes) Doing this made him lose all his friends. my mothers mental health got really bad and she refused to even look after me, so my parents got into lots of arguments. When I was around half a year old, me and my dad were kicked out by my mothers parents and they drove us to a homeless shelter. The shelter contacted someone and we were able to go into this building with small rooms for teen parents to live in, and he became my primary caregiver
When he was 20 he was given this small council house aswell as being on benefits. He was able to get a stable job as an electrician and we’ve gone from the council house, to renting a house, and to owning a house! He is 33 now and he’s completely different from when he was a teenager and is a really great dad
