How many distinct races/species exist in the Reverse: 1999 lore? (Compiling for a D&D 5e homebrew sourcebook)
I'm working on a D&D 5e homebrew sourcebook set in the Reverse: 1999 universe. covering playable races, subclasses, backgrounds, feats, and more.
One thing I'm struggling with is compiling a complete list of all the races and species that exist in the lore. I know the broad categories from UTTU's classification (Arcanist, Awakened, The Beyond, The Infected), but I'm trying to go deeper. all the specific subspecies and creature types that appear across characters, story, and lore.
So far I have:
- Human
- Gargoyle (Sentinel)
- Succubus (Anjo Nala)
- Vampire (Valentina, Semmelweis)
- Mermaid (Lorelei)
- Melusine (Hissabeth)
- whatever Jessica is
- Miemeng Bird (Getian)
- yao (Reed)
- Various animal Arcanists (squirrel, dog, etc.)
- Awakened (apple,charon, lucy)
My design approach is that Arcanist is a separate trait, not a race itself. since i think it's really just a flag for whether a being can use Arcanum. And it'd be too restrictive for gameplay purposes.
Does anyone know of races or creature types I'm missing? Character stories, or lore documents in game. Even obscure NPC only species would help.
