My baby girl Sophie started off with and eye infection so we took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with upper respiratory infection. Sent us home with meds and said they’d check in. I noticed her face crusting up around her eyes and nose a lot but thought it was the medicine flushing her out so I waited to see if her symptoms would progress. We only had about a weeks worth of meds until she was finished and should be better however the crusts spread to her ears and on her face. I emailed the vet and they asked me to come in that right away. I was told it could be a severe case of mites so they took a piece of crust off her face and tested it - there were no mites. They really didn’t know what it was and suggested it could be an autoimmune disease. So they said they were going to send me home with ear ointment to help with her ear infection and steroids but asked to take her to the back to clean her ears. To my surprise the vet came back in and told me that while they were washing her ears they noticed immediately that it was bleeding and it made him think of this case that he read about where a cats illness developed into herpes. He said he’s never in his career experienced it but one of his colleagues has and it’s very rare for it to happen. So they sent me home with ear ointment and herpes meds. Obviously I was very skeptical but was desperate for answers, unfortunately I had to leave for a trip so my husband gave my baby her medication and he realized while I was gone that her crusties were falling off of her face! While this was happening I had scheduled another appointment with a different clinic to get a second opinion. By the time I came home she was still lethargic and was sleeping almost the whole day but looked way better! I took her to the other vet and he also said he has never seen anything like this in his career (he was very old) and was very old school because he suggested I give her a bath to help clean off her crusties and take a comb to brush it off of her since she was feeling better. The picture of her with the treat was after the bath. I’m posting this because she had a flare up and is currently in the stages of what the 2nd photo looks like. She’s back on her herpes meds to help her but I wanted to see if anyone’s experience this before? Please let me know if you have! My sweet girl doesn’t deserve this 💔
