IM with board failures

Please be kind—I’m feeling pretty scared about what lies ahead. I have three COMLEX Level 1 failures before ultimately passing, and I’m currently completing my clinical rotations. I’m going to work as hard as I can to perform well on Level 2, but I can’t help worrying that my previous attempts will prevent programs from giving me a chance.

Has anyone here successfully matched IM (or in general) after multiple board failures, or known someone who has? I would really appreciate any honest experiences or advice about how to move forward and strengthen the rest of my application.

Step 2 with a failed step 1

I failed step 1 and my school advised not to retake it. I also passed COMLEX after 4 attempts (see earlier post for reference). if I'm scoring well (260+) for step 2, should I bother taking it? I know that the failed step 1 remains on my record, but not sure how to feel about taking step 2 and if this would just hurt my chances into matching even more.

Looking for an IM mentor!

recently posted about my comlex failures and someone suggested I find an IM mentor (preferably a resident). I'd like to learn how to best navigate the path of getting into IM with red flags and being a non-traditional applicant. Willing to pay as well. Any advice or kind words are appreciated :) tyia!

Passed comlex on my 4th attempt

I know how much this limits me, even down to which states I can practice in. I missed the pass by approx 1-3 questions max, twice. I have no crazy story or excuse for my failures, aside from the fact that my studying needed major improvement and a tutor helped with it. But is anything aside from FM really off the table? I really want to do IM. I'm restarting my rotations in a few weeks, but I'm going in feeling so discouraged that I basically don't feel like a candidate for most specialties. Any advice or kind words are greatly appreciated.

Was wondering if it’s possible to get internships or part time positions as a Med student interested in clinical research? I’m based in the midwest. I'm open to remote positions but not sure how that would work with clinical research. Any advice on how to obtain experience would be helpful. I've cold emailed quite a few labs and haven't heard much back yet. TYIA : )

I know it's beneficial to take both, but I failed step 1 and dont plan to continue with the step series. Any success stories in matching to IM with only comlex? I was hoping to stay in the west coast which I know is a long shot, but just thought I'd ask on others' experience.
