Mathnasium vs kumon
Hello, I have a 4th grader that “hates” math . I grew up scared of math and hated doing it because it took me extra effort to get good grades. I got them, but I really struggled. I am home schooling my son. I am noticing him “slower to learn the concepts “ with math. His younger (1st) brother is grasping so much faster. I don’t want him to grow up crying every day because he doesn’t understand math. His dad and I decided that this summer we will start some sort of tutoring to help him feel confident. Edit to add: we will continue for as long as he needs it. It will not be a summer thing if he is still needing the help.
A little about him
• loves video games
• creative
• loves drawing
• likes to read
• very shy
He is not a fast learner. It takes him a while which is ok, but I want him to actually understand. We do the lessons and when it’s time to do the review he doesn’t remember much and we have to review it again.
My friend suggested Kumon. And just today an ad for mathnasium popped up. I went to google reviews and can’t seem to choose which place is a better fit for him. My goal is for him to catch him up, to feel confident doing his math work, learn any techniques that can help him in the future. I just want him comfortable with math because it’s only going to get harder.
Any suggestions? Thank you
