The news is reporting that last Wednesday, someone fell while rock scrambling near Spry Canyon in Zion. Unfortunately, that person did not survive their injuries.
Spry Canyon is probably unfamiliar to many visitors to this sub. It is a technical canyon involving a number of rappels; the head of the canyon is about a mile to the north of Canyon Overlook in remote and rugged terrain. The news reports don't offer many details about the accident except that it was a 43-year-old man hiking by himself, and his body was found by other hikers.
Last Wednesday, there was a post in this sub reporting a search-and-rescue operation near Canyon Overlook, and one of the commenters, u/Street-Sell-9140, shared an unconfirmed report that a body had been recovered. Considering the date, the location, and that report, it seems likely that this was the SAR response to this deadly accident.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased hiker, as well as the hikers who found him and performed CPR.
