Hi everyone! I recently started the hunt for a good laptop for college and was overwhelmed by the vast amount of options there are. As I was recently accepted to a pre-med major, I'm looking for something reliable that can last the whole day or most of it if possible. I currently own a Lenovo Ideapad 1, but it's performance while multitasking and battery life are a hassle. I'm also looking into the 2-in-1 category, since being able to use it as a tablet is beneficial for my clinical rotations, portability and stuff. Google recommended me to look into the Lenovo Yoga i7, HP Envy x360 14, Samsung book 4/5 360, and Surface Pro 11, but I wanted other people's opinion on this. Thanks!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: around $800-1000 preferably but open to max $1200
- Are you open to refurbs/used? only if used great condition
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 2-in-1/360 laptop, would prefer >10 hrs battery life
- How important is weight and thinness to you? N/A as long as its comfortable to transport
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 12 to 16 inch prob
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. just note-taking and microsoft office
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? probably won't have much time for gaming
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? touch-screen, usb-c charging, also backlit keyboard would be nice if possible
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Despite macbook's popularity, I'd prefer a windows suggestion as I grew up with it and own most of samsung's ecosystem.
