As a self employed person who made payments to another self employed person…how do I claim on taxes?
I’m catching up filing my taxes (am late for a few years!! Been going through some major depression and put it off but am nearly caught up).
A friend showed me how to do them by hand as a self employed artist. I started making enough I wanted to claim my income correctly, this year I ran into a bit of a roadblock. Last year was the first year I paid other people for some things, which were in direct correlation to my business. I had put on some arts events and were paying out artist fees to people who were featured in the event.
I can’t for the life of me figure out how I would claim this expense! Under salaries/wages feels incorrect since it was a one time payment, all of them were pretty below $500 as well so I wouldn’t have given out T4’s (if I’m understanding how this works correctly), especially because these people are were largely hobbyists rather than full fledged pros.
I can’t remotely afford to go to an accountant or have assistance with filing my taxes from a professional, otherwise I wouldn’t be asking here. Having a hard time looking for advice on this answer like I have with other tax expense questions.
Thanks greatly in advance!
