Why do even "quality" home goods have such obvious design flaws built into them?

Something that drives me mad as a designer — you spend decent money on a frying pan, it's solid, heavy, well made. And then there are rivets holding the handle on that are basically impossible to clean properly. Grease and bacteria just sit in there forever. It's such an obvious failure point and yet every pan has them.

It got me thinking about how many everyday objects have this — where the core thing is fine but there's always one weak point that either makes it a nightmare to maintain or eventually causes it to fail. Things that should last decades but don't quite make it because of one avoidable design decision.

Anyone else notice this with things around the home? Curious what drives you mad.
