Should we paint these cabinets?

UPDATE: well you convinced us to leave them and touch them up. We do get snagged on the handles all the time, so we’re gonna switch the hardware out with something brass. We’re at square one with the backsplash but that’s okay. Thanks for all your input.

Original: New (artic white) countertops are on the way and a backsplash will be installed. We’re on a budget and time crunch before a new baby comes, so months of getting new cabinets installed is not an option.

These were painted before we moved in. We’re between leaving them the color they are and just touching up the dings and worn down spots, or painting them a darker color like a dark navy in hopes of the grooves being less noticeable. I think we dislike the grooves more than we dislike the color.

How much work would it be to diy paint this? Any recommendations on painting in the grooves? My wife suggested getting a spray gun for this job, but wondering if that’ll work with the deep grooves. The way it’s painted right now, if you look into the grooves, you can see the original wood color. Wondering what the general consensus is on keeping the existing color or going through with painting. Lipstick on a pig?

I also included the two backsplashes that were between. If we stick with the turquoise we were going to stay safe with the penny tiles and if we go navy, we like the mosaic to spice it up a little.

(Ignore the messy countertops please)
