I’m also tired of the “just wait 10 more years,” “the game is already finished,” or similar comments. That kind of conformist mindset is exactly why Capcom never fully committed to these remakes the way they deserved. Unlike the original 90s releases, both remakes ended up with cut locations, reduced continuity, and missing scenarios that many fans expected to see.

Honestly, Capcom wouldn’t even need to spend massive resources to improve them. They could collaborate with talented modders who already proved what’s possible, polish the work through their own QA process, and release expanded versions of both games.

Mods like the A & B Scenario Fix for Resident Evil 2 and the upcoming Last Escape project for Resident Evil 3 show there’s still huge potential in these remakes. A “Gold Edition” or “Director’s Cut” approach could easily attract fans while also generating additional revenue for Capcom.

The RE Engine already contains plenty of reusable assets: maps, weapons, enemies, mechanics, animations, and environmental systems. With that foundation, Capcom could realistically restore cut areas, expand the campaigns, improve scenario continuity, or even add completely new side stories featuring characters like Ada Wong or Nicholai Ginovaef without having to build everything from scratch.

And considering how polished Resident Evil 4 turned out, >!along with the rumors surrounding a possible Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake without cutting content!< and the success of Requiem, both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 still have a massive amount of untapped potential without changing the canon at all. They could simply expand exploration, add more puzzles, restore missing content, and improve gameplay variety to create the definitive versions fans originally expected.
