For stripping cast iron, I’ve always used a combination of fire, Coca Cola, an S.O.S scrubber, and elbow grease.

Since Reddit started showing me posts from this group, I’ve learned about using lye to strip pans, and they look stunning!

I’m interested in making a lye bath in a Rubbermaid tub, and recently learned that I can make lye water using wood ash (which I have an abundance of!)

How concentrated would I need to make this to be effective as a cast iron stripper? The video/short I saw was about making soap with lye water, and was a ratio of 1 cup fine wood ash mixed with 2 cups water.
