Do you care more about being represented by someone like you, or by someone who supports policies you agree with?

As a millennial woman, I’ve sometimes wondered whether feeling underrepresented comes more from not seeing people with similar life experiences in government, or from feeling that certain concerns aren’t being prioritized. I’m curious how others think about it.

AOC, Sanders, RBG-of course all great examples of people who come from completely different backgrounds and make me feel properly represented.
With that being said, it’s sad that I can’t think of anyone else.

At the very least, millennials make up the majority of American voters.
Only 26% of law makers (higher government officials) are women.
Roughly 5% might be women.

This question is all really just curiosity and I just genuinely want to see how others feel.
Which matters more to you personally, and why?

Have your views on this changed over time?
