Epiphone 59 ES-355 Facelift

I was never a fan of the gold hardware on this guitar. I read somewhere online that the gold plating comes off with some elbow grease.

That was an understatement. Some musicnomad polish and a microfiber towel brought it down to nickel within a few firm swipes.

I took the gold off the pickup covers, tailpiece, and most of the bridge. There’s still some gold in the crooks and crannies that the towel couldn’t reach, but I think it adds character.

I threw on some tuners that came from a revstar a couple years ago. I love the look of the plastic buttons.

This guitar is a keeper for sure!

NGD! Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom ‘59 ES-355

This thing is a beauty! I’ll start off by saying I originally bought the ‘62 ES-335 as I was primarily drawn to the nickel hardware and thinner neck. The ‘62 335 I tried had an extremely soft neck and I couldn’t get it to intonate well. I ultimately returned it.

A few days ago, this 355 arrived. It’s 8.1 pounds and perfectly balanced. I removed the pickguard immediately because come on, how good does it look without it?

The only two gripes I have are the nut and the finish. The nut slots are tight and the strings catch when bending or tuning. That’ll be an easy fix with some cheap files on the next string change. I also have some Music Nomad polish on the way so I can give it a little more shine.

Other than that, beautiful looking and sounding guitar. Hats off to Guitar Center and their generous used gear return policy. It’s a low-risk way to try out guitars that you can’t buy in person.

New ES-335 - Bendy Neck?

NGD! I finally got my hands on an inspired by Gibson Custom 1962 ES-335. Such a beautiful looking and sounding guitar.

This 60’s slim taper neck is one of thinner necks I’ve played. I’ve noticed that the strings bend quite a bit out of tune just from pressure from my hand when playing. The guitar is even quite sensitive to my playing angle, for example if I lean back, the strings all go sharp.

I’ve owned 30+ guitars in the past 10 years or so and have never noticed this. Is this common with these thinner necks with a higher fret neck joint or did I get a lemon?
