My dream parti sapphire shattered during setting, where do we go from here?
Hello everyone,
I am heartbroken. My partner has been getting my dream engagement ring made, it’s been a long journey as we wanted this to be an heirloom piece to pass down to our child. My partners been chasing up when to pick up the ring as the setter was in the nearest major city 3 hours away and was informed that during setting the sapphire had shattered beyond anything salvageable. Our goldsmith advised that they’re trying to find a replacement stone. This is our first time doing something like this and I don’t know the expectations.
Should we be expected to purchase the replacement?
What should I be asking?
Can I ask for the pieces? We found the stone the week I got pregnant with my first and it holds a lot of sentimental value.
Parti sapphires have gone up in value since we purchased ours, we purchased ours for $2.5k and the closest I have been able to find size wise (not colour wise, I haven’t been able to find a parti sapphire in that size yet) is $6000-$8000. If they’re going to replace it would it be a like for like? Or a like for the value I paid for the stone?
Any other potential recommendations if I need to look at another stone?
I’m not upset at the goldsmith or the setter, I understand things happen, I thought we were safe with it being a sapphire but I understand.
