Stop PT During Retreat
DAFI90-1201
“8.2.6.2.3. All sporting or physical training activities will stop during Reveille and
Retreat (only if the flag is being raised or lowered). (T-1) Military members in uniform
will stand at the position of ‘parade rest’ facing the flag or music until the last note of
Reveille or Retreat is played. All personnel will then follow all etiquette for honoring
the U.S. flag as outlined in paragraph 8.2.1.1 and paragraph 8.2.1.2 in this
publication. (T-1)”
Last week I was running on the base track and retreat started (I left work late). Everyone else that was walking the track stopped, I continued running. Years ago, I was told if you are doing PT you do not stop for retreat. However, I can’t get over the disgusted looks people gave me while I passed them.
The Protocol AFI states you only stop if the flag is being lowered/raised. Ours stays up 24/7.
Am I wrong?
