Creating/Running Saltmarsh DnD Campaign, not sure if these maps I was able to find make sense
Apologies for the poor image quality on the last one. What I have here is a map of the region from the sourcebook (Ghosts of Saltmarsh) then a map of the immediate region and a map of the majority of the continent that I got from two other sources. I plan for this to be a long campaign that gives my players a ton of ability to explore the overall region, but they are all very visual people so they definitely will want maps to help keep things straight.
My question is basically this; does the final map really make sense to use as a "world map" for my campaign? One of the central plot points is that the Kingdom of Keoland (primarily above the red box in the final image) has hit some roadblocks with its northern expansion, and is now focusing on the sea. The King wants Saltmarsh (the primary town, formerly basically a backwater fishing village) to become a hub of trade and a jumping off point for naval expansion.
From what I'm looking at with the world map though, it seems like that's not even remotely a realistic goal. It seems like its basically at the far side of the civilized world, beyond the end of where I'd expect there to be any trade routes. I guess maybe the middle of the Azure sea could be dangerous to navigate, but even then I'd expect the trade ships from the Eastern ocean to instead stick to the other side of that sea, and go up that part of the coast above the part labelled Scarlet Brotherhood, and West/southwest of the Kingdom of Sunndi. Maybe I could say that there are valuables in that area called Yeomanry, or the mountains beyond, but that still seems kinda flimsy. Maybe that could kinda justify Saltmarsh turning into a major trade port? Is this usable in any way, or should I focus instead on just creating something new for myself?
