I mean... Bear absolutely did not want to trap Nikki with his wish. To him it was a complete throwaway. I think we're missing that when we're saying things like "his only way to love was to enforce it on her..." He tried multiple times to reverse the wish for gods' sake. But the villain of obsession is undoubtedly the storeowner.
