[OC] We built something that scores every UK news article for bias and credibility. 45,000 articles later, here's what we found.
Been working on a side project for the past month that automatically scores news articles for credibility and bias as they're published. It pulls from about 100+ UK and international outlets every 30 minutes and runs each article through Claude.
After scoring 45,000+ articles here's what stood out — 22.5% of headlines were flagged as misleading. The Daily Mail had 134 misleading headlines in the last 30 days alone, The Sun had 52, The Mirror 33.
On credibility BBC Sport and BBC News come out on top around 77-79/100. Daily Express is bottom of the UK outlets at 56/100, GB News at 58/100.
Politically 14 of the 25 UK outlets with enough data sit centre, 5 lean left, 6 lean right.
Worth saying the scores aren't perfect. The AI is pattern matching on how reliable journalism tends to read rather than actually fact checking. But across 45k articles the patterns are pretty consistent.
Happy to answer any questions on how it works. Data and methodology is all at RatedNews f you want to look up specific outlets.
