4 years at Infosys, mostly support experience, struggling to crack SAP ABAP HR interviews. Looking for advice.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some honest advice from experienced SAP professionals.

I worked at Infosys for almost 4 years. Earlier this year (February), I had to leave the company. Since then, I've been applying for SAP ABAP HR roles almost every day and have attended quite a few interviews, but I haven't received an offer yet.

The biggest issue I'm facing is that most interviews focus heavily on development and scenario-based questions. My experience at Infosys was mostly in support projects. I did get the opportunity to work on an SAP ABAP HR project, but it was cancelled after a short time, so I couldn't gain much real development experience. I completed SAP ABAP HR training and certifications, but I know that's not the same as working on a live project.

What makes this even harder is that SAP ABAP HR doesn't seem to have many open-source projects where I can practice realistic business scenarios on my own.

I'm starting to lose confidence and I'm honestly worried about my career.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or who interviews SAP ABAP candidates.

  • How can I gain practical SAP ABAP HR development experience without access to a live project?
  • How should I prepare for scenario-based interview questions?
  • Is it worth focusing on S/4HANA ABAP, CDS Views, AMDP, RAP, or should I strengthen my ABAP HR fundamentals first?
  • Has anyone here successfully switched jobs after having mostly support experience? If so, what helped you make the transition?

Any advice, learning resources, or personal experiences would mean a lot.

Thank you!
