best camera for my budget?

I would like to buy a camera set up for my partner who has expressed an interest in photography. subjects would typically be birds, nature, architecture, and landscapes.

I have no experience with cameras and asked google, it suggested a Canon EOS 700D at first and then i did a bit more digging and found people recommending the A6000 too. then found out about the 70D which is better than the 700D but this is all based on very little research on the internet and wanted real people’s opinions.

like I say I managed to do a little research on cameras but lenses all look the same to me and I know nothing about them. also at this point mirrorless or not is okay, obviously in an ideal world it would be mirrorless but this is just for his hobby and my budget doesn’t allow for perfect world scenarios which is fine.

I know that this is very very optimistic but ideally would be spending less than 400£ but I like the idea of having a lense for wider shots and a telescopic lense but I’m worried that at this price point, even with buying second hand, I may not be able to get something that is super great but I’d like it to beat the camera on an Iphone 12 at least or there’s very little point.

I’m just thinking about getting him the camera and lenses and he can get his own camera bag and everything but if you have suggestions for accessories, I’ll happily take them and pass them along.

Thanks in advance, I’d really appreciate any help you all can offer me

  1. I stay in the UK and my currency is GBP and budget is
  2. I don’t currently have any equipment.
  3. For birds and architecture and landscapes
  4. and this is purely for photography purposes, no video required but wouldn’t mind having it and barely or not using it
