canadian ib student stressed about medical pathways! (us, uk, canada)
Hi guys!! I am basially having a crisis.
Basically, my heart is set on pre-med, I wanna do med school, I wanna be a doctor.
I am canadian, and I'm doing the IB and planning to take the prereq exams for the us and uk (sat and more).
i don't know if I want to do the medicine pathway and practice here purely because of taxation and the longterm impacts because of the physician crisis here. Also, im choosing to do the ib for this goal because why would i increase high school difficulty and dock my marks to stay in canada and only try to get into canadian universities. However, I'm totally open to still doing it here as a plan b if the international thing goes wrong.
I def don't wanna practice in the UK, only looking at doing med school there and matching back to canada or us. its notoriously hard, and even harder to match to the us if im a UK grad instead of canadian.
My second option is US pre med. The reason i say this and not canadian pre med, us med is because with us pre med, at least i'll have access to us pre med opportunities, like us research, profs, and the process in general. However, its super expensive and when applying to US med schools, they will still treat me as an international because I am a canadian citizen. this is a notoriously difficult way to go to us med school.
My last option would canadian pre-med and med, and then trying to match to US residency. Or doing canadian pre med and trying to get into US medical schools.
I'm basically deciding where to do pre med, canada, US or do med in UK.
I know I'm talking like this is a choosing game, all of the paths are extrmely difficult to even access but I really just need input so i don't waste my time doing all these exams like the sat or ucat to not even apply. I also know that i have it easier than a lot of other internationals because im canadian, but i would love any and all input! sorry for the jargon!
