What should I realistically expect as side effects from birth control?
TLDR: No birth control has worked, what should I realistically expect as side effects from different birth controls?
So far I have been on the combo pill and the depo shot and both have been horrible experiences. I have very heavy bleeding and I'd like something to help with the bonus of no pregnancy.
On the combo pill, I would get sick every single time, which lowered my want to take it until I finally just stopped. Additionally I gained a lot of weight, even with throwing up most meals. The only good thing was that it did successfully stop my periods.
Now I'm on Depo and my 4th month of constant bleeding. I still have weight problems but it's manageable now (I've lost most of my addictional weight), and only slight emotional changes. Everything is manageable if I could just stop bleeding, which doesn't seem like it's going to happen any time soon.
I've decided to switch yet again, and I'm hoping for a birth control with at least manageable symptoms, but at this point I'm afraid of trying again. I've heard the best recommendation for heavy bleeders and hormone sensitivity is the hormonal IUD or progesterone only pill, with the IUD recommended for releasing hormones in the uterus oppose to through the bloodstream. Other recommendations are welcome, although seeing how Depo effected me, I don't really want to risk any other birth controls that have chances of heavier bleeding.
Long story short, I'm worried about what negative effects to expect from starting a new method. What side effects have been most noticeable, and what possibilities should I keep in mind?
