Elriel Foreshadowing - ACOWAR

Hello everyone!

Here are some slides that show all the ACOWAR quotes/scenes that possibly foreshadow Elriel.

Like the last post, I'm open to hearing everyone's thoughts. If you disagree with anything I have here, that's perfectly fine. Just make sure if you are going to refute something I have said, to be respectful (and also bring textual evidence).

There will be one more slide in the comments because Reddit only allows 20 images. Please let me know if I missed anything :)

The Cauldron's Deck - Final Results

Hello everyone!

The winner of the Evil category was Amarantha with the following quote:

“She won,” someone in the crowd said. “Free them,” another echoed.

But Amarantha’s face blanched, her features contorting until she looked truly serpentine. “I’ll free them whenever I see fit. Feyre didn’t specify when I had to free them—just that I had to. At some point. Perhaps when you’re dead,” she finished with a hateful smile. “You assumed that when I said instantaneous freedom regarding the riddle, it applied to the trials, too, didn’t you? Foolish, stupid human.”

I stepped back as she descended the steps of the dais. Her fingers curled into claws—Jurian’s eye was going wild within the ring, his pupil dilating and shrinking. “And you,” she hissed at me. “You.” Her teeth gleamed—turning sharp. “I’m going to kill you" (ACOTAR, CH. 44, p. 398-399).

Thank you to everyone that participated! It was a lot of fun designing the cards 😄 For a close up of each card please see the slides above.

I do plan to make a second subset of cards/banners for each character, so if a character you nominated wasn't included, stay tuned!

Elriel Foreshadowing - ACOMAF

Hello everyone!

In honor of Elriel month I decided to put together some slides that show all the quotes/scenes that possibly foreshadow Elriel ☺️

Since there is so much textual support I have decided to go book by book. And I might also have a separate post for the bonus chapters.

I’m open to hearing everyone’s thoughts (even the people that may not ship Elriel). All I ask is that if you disagree with anything here that you keep things respectful.

Also please let me know if I missed anything 💕

Hello everyone!

The winner of the Hope category was Azriel with the following quote:

“The Nephelle Philosophy.”

He nodded. “Apparently, every year in their kingdom, they have the Nephelle Run to honor her flight. On dry land, but … She and her wife crown a new victor every year in commemoration of what happened that day.” He chucked the stone back amongst its brethren on the shore, the sound clattering over the water. “So we’ll train, Feyre, until the last possible day. Because we never know if just one extra hour will make the difference.”

I weighed his words, Nephelle’s story. I rose to my feet and spread my wings. “Then let’s try again" (ACOWAR, CH. 29, p. 309)

The next card we will be selecting a character for is the Wisdom card.

Wisdom: the ability to apply knowledge and experience to make good judgments; the ability to see beneath the surface of things to understand the true nature of the situation

If you are new to the game or would like a refresher of how the game works, please take a look at this post.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were unable to participate in previous rounds but still want to comment character quotes that you feel apply to those categories, feel free to do so. After we have selected characters for all 14 cards, we will go back and use all of these quotes to make a second subset of cards.

Hello everyone!

The winner of the Ambition category was Eris with the following quote:

“What is the asking price,” I repeated.

“The same thing I told Azriel when I found him snooping through my father’s woods yesterday.”

Hurt flared in Mor’s eyes as she whipped her head toward the shadowsinger. But Azriel didn’t so much as acknowledge her as he announced, “When the time comes … we are to support Eris’s bid to take the throne" (ACOWAR, CH. 26, p. 275)

For a close up of the Ambition card please see my comment below 🙂

The next card we will be selecting a character for is the Hope card.

Hope: an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes

Hello everyone!

The winner of the Strategy category was Cassian with the following quote:

She’d been aware that Cassian knew how to lead armies. Had watched him do so with unflinching precision and cleverness. But reading the manuscript, she realized she had never understood just how much advanced thinking went into planning battles and wars.

Nesta set the manuscript on her nightstand and lay back against her pillows (ACOSF, CH. 24, p. 266-267).

For a close up of the Strategy card please see my comment below 🙂

---------------------------------------------

The next card we will be selecting a character for is the Ambition card.

Ambition: a strong desire to achieve, succeed, or attain specific goals (i.e., power, wealth, fame); often accompanied by the drive and determination to work toward them

The winner of the Death category was Nesta with the following quote:

She reached inward, toward the power that had made deathless monsters tremble and wicked kings fall to their knees, but … she didn’t know how to use it. Death flowed through her veins, yet she did not have the knowledge to master it (ACOSF, CH. 77, p. 735).

For a close up of the Death card please see my comment below 🙂

---------------------------------------------

The next card we will be selecting a character for is the Cunning card.

Cunning: the ability to achieve goals through deceit, trickery, or crafty, ingenious planning

If you are new to the game or would like a refresher of how the game works, please take a look at this post.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were unable to participate in previous rounds but still want to comment character quotes that you feel apply to those categories, feel free to do so. Another potential parallel:

Cassian stared toward the castle. “You think she’s alive?” The question haunted him with every breath these last few days.

“You’d know if she’d died,” Azriel said, pausing his work and looking up at Cassian. He tapped his brother’s chest with a scarred hand. “Right here—you’d know, Cass” (ACOSF, p. 688).

————————————————————————

Elide backed away a step. Then another.

Lorcan couldn’t be dead.

She would know if he were dead. She would know it, in her heart, her soul, if he were gone.

He was down there. He was down there, in that army, perhaps injured and bleeding out— (KOA, p. 510).

————————————————————————

The scene where Elide rescues Lorcan shares lots of parallels with the Hybern rescue scene (see slides above). Both Elide and Azriel were distressed when their respective LI was in danger. They both showed no hesitation and risked their lives to save them.

So, while this scene where Azriel is trying to comfort Cassian takes place in ACOSF, it is very likely he is referring to how he felt when Elain was kidnapped by Hybern.

————————————————————————

If there are any Elriel/Elorcan parallels I missed, let me know in the comments 😆I plan to make a Google doc of all the SJM pairings that share parallels with Elriel.

Edit: I know it says KOS but I meant KOA - Kingdom of Ash 😅

Hello everyone!

The winner of the Power category was Rhysand with the following quote:

He returned to me, every movement exquisite and laced with lethal power, but I held my ground as he gave me a lazy smile. “Do I look like I’m part of the Spring Court?” The words were tinged with an arrogance that only an immortal could achieve. He laughed under his breath (ACOTAR, CH. 21, p. 191).

For a close up of the Power card please see my comment below 🙂

---------------------------------------------

The next card we will be selecting a character for is the Life card.

To embody life means to fully represent, express, or live out the essence of life itself.

This could be a character that is associated with rebirth, renewal, and hope.

(Not an entity that is only vaguely referenced cough cough)

If you are new to the game or would like a refresher of how the game works, please take a look at this post.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were unable to participate in previous rounds but still want to comment character quotes that you feel apply to those categories, feel free to do so. After we have selected characters for all 14 cards, we will go back and use all of these quotes to make a second subset of cards.

Hello canon lovers! The MOD team is excited to announce the very first activity for this sub called, “The Cauldron’s Deck.”

How the game works:

There are 14 different cards that will each have a unique character from the ACOTAR series. As a sub, we will determine which character best applies to each category.

How we will determine which character is on each card:

For a character to be nominated, you must comment a quote from the books that shows how they fit the card’s category.

Multiple quotes can be used for the same character but please make sure to comment each quote separately. If you see a quote has already been commented please do not post the same quote again.

The character with the most upvotes across all comments (quotes) after 2 days wins.

In other words, the character with the most textual support will have the highest chances of winning that category.

Once the winning character has been identified, we will make their card which will include fanart, a brief description of the character’s powers, and a quote. Whichever quote had the highest number of upvotes (for that character) will go on the card.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Each character can only appear on a card once. However if you feel a character applies to another category feel free to provide quote(s). These will be used for something special 👀

Alright now that we have established how the game is played, the first card we will be choosing a character for is the Resilience card.

Resilience: the ability to withstand, adapt to, and recover quickly from adversity, stress, or change
